The Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS), founded in 1847 by Royal Charter, is the oldest teaching union in the world. The EIS is the largest teaching union in Scotland with over 60,000 members, representing 80% of teachers and lecturers across all sectors of education. The EIS is active in promoting Continuing Professional Development for teachers and lecturers. The EIS has a network of accredited Learning Representatives to advise members on CPD, and also works in partnership to deliver courses for teachers and lecturers including a Chartered Teacher programme.
