As the biggest professional learning event for Scottish education, the Scottish Learning Festival (SLF) has everything from workshops, to demonstrations, twilight sessions, networking opportunities and much much more.
Darren Donnelly, Acting PT Raising Attainment Senior Phase at Cumnock Academy, was among the thousands of visitors to last year’s Festival and he believes the event helped him bring fresh ideas to his lessons. Darren said: “Having both attended and presented last year at SLF, I can say that the professional drive of enquiry made me attend and the resulting feeling of being secure and confident enough to share my learning with so many others made me present at SLF.
“Working with others and seeing excellent practice dovetail with so much passion and commitment makes it a very worthwhile experience. I would encourage colleagues to attend to be inspired.
“I took my learning from the Festival and shared the ideas across our learning community improving the opportunities for growth in all; adults and young people.”
Gillian Hamilton, Strategic Director for Professional Learning and Leadership at Education Scotland, also believes it is important for educators to take time out to focus on their own development for the benefit of learners. She explained: “As educators we are all aware of the value of learning but it is easy to overlook your own learning needs. The Scottish Learning Festival provides an opportunity for those working in education to take time out to focus on their own development and discover new approaches and evidence that will help deliver the best outcomes for learners.”
